SPORTS BODIES
UNITED ACTION NEEDED
AVOIDING DATE CLASHES
The Mavor of Napier was recently reported as stating that too many sports bodies in his area were fixing dates and then finding that they ivp"o clashing with the fixtures of other organisations. What was need ed was some co-ordination of effort. An interesting development in
t]l; 5: connection, and one which could well be commended to the attention of other provinces, is the recent formation oF a Southland Provincial Council in Sport. The necessary approaches and preliminary organisation were carried out by the Area Recreation Officer of the Physical Welfare and Recreation Branch. Already the council has manifested its presence in a no
uncertain way. Xot merely has it avoided the clashing of da'es, but it has acted as a medium for the arrangement of joint Centennial sports fixtures. It has also taken in hand a scheme for the publication of lists of defaulters in subscriptions. a measure which has been found very necessary in other centres . It is no*, of by any means the first demonstration of co-ordina-tion amongst snorts bodies. The Pioneer Snorts dub In Christchurch. to which are affiPated nearly all the Cantor-inT-v snorting bodies nnd ■which maintains its own Hub rooms. • s a .«-ntpn/-i?cl example of what enn be achieved. PVivs'cnl nvr n »o nnd Recreation intends to sponsor similar deveionm n nls in other area', wherever practicable.
