DISTRICT CRICKET
Sir, —May I add a few reminiscences on a controversy appearing in your columns. In the first place, well do I remember having 1 to demolish large patches of Scotch Thistles before commencement of one game. Then again on one occasion several players had their creams ruined through the state cattle had left the paddock in. These arc but two occasions when country wickets have been found wanting. I understand, a few years ago a move was on foot to have all games played in the Whakatane grounds but the meeting decided against the idea. Now thai all have had similar experiences to those related above j surely the delegates have seen thej folly of their ways. Let us burj r all differences and unit in making the central playing field worthy of the high standard Rangitaiki cricket has attained. In conclusion I desire to pen my appreciation of the helpful service the "Beacon" is rendering cricket by the prompt reports and accurate criticism,on matches. Keep the standard up and give your criticisms freely. If some players "can't take it" the majority approve. Yours etc., "WISDEN."
