STERLING FUNDS
PAYMENT FOR STORED BUTTER An explanation of the recent rise of over £1,7.")!),000 in New Zealand's sterling funds was made by the Minister of Finance, Mr Nash, in a broad cast address. Referring to the British Qoycilament's requisition of butter, Mr Nash said that the butter New Zet-Jp land had in slore in London at the outbreak of war was taken oA r er by the British Government, which had not yet paid for it all. Something like £2,250,000 was paid last week and that was why New Zealand's present sterling funds had gone up. It was not because the Dominion had been paid in advance for any of its goods sold under the agreements. "There is still some more money to come so sterling funds will go up again," said Mr Nash, "although they j will be short a little later on."
