COUNTY MEETS

REPORTS ADOPTED

GENERAL DISCUSSION

I The Whakatane County Council held their monthly meeting on Tues day under the chairmanship of Mr J. L. Burnett. Present: Councillors R. F. Wardlaw, L. W. Luxton, T. G. H. Cawte, H. C. McCready, A. F. McGougan, D. W. Spenee and F. J. Burt. Leave of absence Avas granted to Crs W. A. McCracken and C. T. Smith.

After the minutes of the previous general meeting had been confirmed, the acting-Chairman of the Coun cil referred to the death of Mr G. li. Mends, Avho, prior to his death, avhs Chairman of the Tauranga County Council. The chairman moved that the council should convey its sympathy to Mrs Mends.

The chairman, in referring to the of absence granted to Cr Smith, said that Cr Smith had been ill for some time and he thought that the council should Avrite to the Councillor, expressing the hopes of the members for a speedy recovery.

Free Ambulance,

A recommendation by the Finance and General Purposes Committee that the County Chairman and Gr Lux ton be the council's representatives on the Whakatane District Ambulance Fund Committee resulted

in a general discussion on matters pertaining to ambulance eusls and administration and the chairman asked for authority lor the council's delegates at the next meeting of that committee.

The recommendation was approved.

Repairs to Cottage

It was resolved that the work be put in hand immediately when D. M. Grey's request for repairs to the cottage at Western Drain Road canie up for discussion. The estimated cost of the repairs to the cottage was £100 and the occupant of the house had written, signifying willingness to pay extra rent if the repairs were effected.

Cr Luxton said that some of the alterations had to made immediately and considered that if some improvements were made, the job may as well be completed.

itinerant Trading,

A letter was received from a store keeper at Ohope Beach thanking the council for the protection it liacl afforded against 'one day traders'' operations at the beach. The writer assured the council that its view is entirely in accordance with the views of all those in business at the beach. Every facility will be given the visiting public and all services necessary to beach progress.

Meeting Next Month

It was decided by the council that the next meeting will be held on December the 19th, The reports of the Finance and General Purposes, and Works Committees were adopted.
