PAY-OUT ON PIGS

CO-OPERATIVE COMPANY'S POOL AVOIDANCE OF PENALTY The New Zealand Co-operative Pig Marketing Association have announced their Second Advance Payment rates on all pigs received on consignment from suppliers for the period June Ist to November 4th. This distribution will reach suppliers during the present month. The payments are exclusive of share credits and shareholders' bonus, which will be dealt with as usual in the final settlement at the end of the season. The rates for the various grades and classes are as follows: — Exportable prime quality porkers up to lOOlbs, Id. Exportable prime quality porkers 101 to 1201bs, l^d. Unexportable porkers, all grades, Id. Exportable prime quality porkers, all grades, Id. Unexportable baconers, all grades, Id. Choppers Id. Apparent Misunderstanding.

Producers arc also advised of an apparent misunderstanding which has arisen regarding the purchase and sale of pigs over the normal top weight paid for. This has arisen through the delay in the application of the commandeer which provides a market for carcases up to ISOlbs at a flat rate F. 0.8. price.

Producers have assumed that all pigs purchased since the announcement of the British Government's requisition were sold under it. This is, however, incorrect, the position being that up to the present all pigs slaughtered for export and shipped have been handled entirely free of the commandeer. It is, however, anticipated that killings for export as from Monday, the 21st. will be taken over under it, from which date export schedules have been revised to comply with its conditions, including full payment for a maximum top weight of 1801bs.

It is also pointed out that fit present pigs one lb over this weight cannot be exported as baconers and inasmuch as such pigs have only a heavy discount value on the loca": market, producers would be wise to carefully watch the weight of their pigs and thus avoid this heavy penalty.
