PUNLOP SHIELD MATCH WIN FOR WAIMANA (Beacon Correspondent). The first Dunlop Shield Tennis match of the season played by the Waimana Tennis Club, was against Te Puke, on the Waimana courts, during the week-end. The home team won by 10 matches to 6. The day was perfect for playing, several matches going to three sets. The singles match between Mrs King and Miss Ryburn, was a marathon, the match lastixig two hours, Miss Ryburn taking the final set 6-5. OPOTIKI BEATS TANEATUA During the week-end a very pleasant day was spent at the Opotiki Tennis Club's courts when Taneatim visited Opotiki to meet a local team in the first match of the Watt Cup competition. Opotiki proved the winners by 13 matches to 3. Indiviuual scores are as follows, Opotiki players being mentioned first: — Mrs Black lost to Miss Carter 4-0. 1-6.
