ANDREA APPROVES OF HOPE
CHESTS
Girls who keep hope chests have a loyal champion in Andrea Leeds, who co-stars with Joel McCrea in Universal's dramatic story of young love, "Youth Takes a Fling." During a discussion on the set, Andrea confessed to Director Archie Maya that she has had a hope chest ever since her high school days. In her new picture, "Youth Takes a Fling" Miss Leeds appears as the romantic girl who sells wedding gowns and dreams of the day she herself will be a bride. As you might expect, the girl in the story keeps a hope chest too.
Andrea frankly admits to being sentimental, and says that her own hope chest at home is filled with linen and silver and all the treasures girls like to collect. "Girls who haven't time to keep a hope chest are usually just pretending," she remarked. "Their sophistication is just a pose —and they're missing something that helps make a girl's dreams worth while."
Although the beautiful actress is still one of the screen colony's most heartfree bachelor girls, she will admit that she expects a Prince Charming to come her way one of these days and sweep her off her feet.
DOROTHEA KENT If a prize was offered to the girl with the "fastest line of chatter," Dorothea Kent, blonde scrcen actress, would probably walk off with championship honours. Her ability to read stage lines with machinegun speed, has made Dorothea a muchly-sought-after young lady in film studios, arid has helped lift her to the starring ranks of Hollywood comediennes. The diminutive Dorothea decided on a theatric.-!! career shortly after winning the girls' tennis championship of Los Angeles junior school three times in a row. Abandoning her favourite sport, she enrolled for special training at a good dramatic school. After a period as an artists' model, and appearance as a dancer at the famous Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, she landed her first role in "The Nine O'clock Revue," and was offered a contract in
motion pictures
GARY COOPER LOVES "DOO-DADS" Gar3 r Cooper has a "vicc." According to knowledge willingly imparted by the Paramount studio, it is not as bad as it might sound —just automobiles. "While Gai-y was working in "Beau Geste," he bought another new car. It is his pride and joy. "Gary likes gadgets on his cars, and he is still adding doo-dads to this new one. Already he has installed a special over-drive with a special rear fixle. In addition, to the customary radio and heater, he has put in two rubber fans. One of these, defrosts the windshield and the other, keeps him cool. After that came an automatic clutch, then Gary added two big fog lights and clamped a spotlight on each side of the windshield. He also put an extra large stoplight on the back."
REMEMBER BABY LeROY? Baby Lcßoy (now seven years old and Lonnie Leßoy, if you please), will return to the screen in the near future as the star of "The Biscuit Eater." This casting actually is the result of years of planning. Unbeknown to the film colony, Paramount kept the j r oungster on its payroll after he outgrew the baby roles which brought him fame and fortune when he shared honours with such stars as Maurice Chev-
alier and W. G. Fields
During the years since Leßoy
dropped into obscurity and was trans formed into "Lonnie" Leßoy, Paramount has supported him as a student at Page Military Academy where he bas mastered swimming, boxing, riding and the other manly arts whic.li will be an asset to him
in his new screen careei
