WHAKATANE SCHOOL

MORE ACCOMMODATION

PLANS SUBMITTED

The Chairman of the Wtfakatane School Committee and the Headmaster of the school recently interviewed Mr A. G. Hultquist, M.P., member for the district, and asked him to bring the urgency of further school accommodation before the authorities. In response to this request, Mr Hultquist visited the Auckland Education Board's office and then went thoroughly into the matter with the Education Department in Wellington. He has informed the chairman of the committee and the headmaster that the position is most satisfactory. The Board placed the application on its urgent list and asked the Education Department to make a grant. The Department's answer was to instruct the Board to proceed with the plans and to treat the matter as urgent. The completed plans are to be submitted to the department, and, if approved, a grant will be made. Mr Hultquist was assured that the work would be well under way befor the new school year and that if tents have to be used it will be for a short period only. Appreciation of Mr Hultquist's efforts is expressed by those concerned.
