WOMEN'S INSTITUTE

MATATA GATHERING INTERNATIONAL DAY A pleasant afternoon was spent on Wednesday the loth by a good attendance of members of the Alatata Women's Institute at the home of Mrs Schick. Mrr, Caverhill presided. The meeting opened with the singing of the ode to friendship, followed by the reading of the aspirations bq Mrs H. Withy, after which the business of the day was attended to. The minutes were read and confirmed. A collection was taken in aid of the leper fund. Being international day for the Institute, members were asked to bring small dolls dressed in national costume. The winners Avere Mrs Ansel (Seot) Mrs Pollock (Spanish) who tied, Mrs Cummings 3 (Irish), Mrs Law 3 (Maori). Other competitions: Best flower, Miss Burt 1, Mrs Pollock 2, Mrs Schick 3. Best nemesias, Mrs Schick 1, Mrs H. Withy 2. Sweets, Mrs Ansel 1, Mrs Caverhill 2, Mrs R. Withy 3. Guessing games were won by Miss Burt for the spelling, and Mrs H. Withy won ths "Guess What Am.l." Mrs H. Withy did brisk business at the bring and buy stall the proceeds of which go to the endowment fund. A delicious afternoon tea was served by Mrs Schick and Mrs Waugh. The afternoon closed with a vote of thanks to Mrs Schick and the singing of the National Anthem.
