The evidence revealed the difficulty of obtaining convictions in these cases. Rangers, who were strangers to the district, were introduced and they kept keen, patient watch in the forests where gunmen had been known to go for pigeons. The poachers in that district and in other localities of the North and South Islands are very cunning. How ever, tthe Department of Internal Affairs is determined to continue taking effective action to ensure that the law-breaking will be very unprofitable.
