MAN "WHO BET THERE WOULD BE NO WAR A bookmaker who until the eve of war was taking bets at two to one that there would be no hostilities and who lest nearly £8000 through his optimism,, is carrying on undismayed by the suspension of horse racing n England. He is Harrj' Parker, nick-named "the Turf's great est gambler" and he admitted this week that, as a result of the war, he has £05,000 owing to him in unpaid bets. Then he said he was going to shoulder still more debts.

"I shall take over the liabilities of all the small bookmakers who can't afford to carrs' on," he said. "I am prepared to take over their books and give them a wage or commission." In one morning this week Harry Parker took over the business of J 4 bookmakers, and he anticipated that he would take over another 50 firms and agents in the East End of London .
