WOMEN'S INTERESTS

WHAKATANE INSTITUTE MEETS

The president, Mrs Armstrong, presided over the November meeting of the Whakatane Women's Institute held in the Parish Hall on the 7th inst.

After the adoption of the minutes of previous meetings, a proposal was made that the Institute should eorpß'ne its- war activities to keeping our own boys in camp with comforts etc., more especially any who were likely to have no near relatives

A silver collection was taken, to be forwarded to the Leper Colony, and resulted in a very satisfactory sum being collected.

The entertainments consisted of songs by the girls from the Poro Poro School, under the supervision of Mrs F. Boswell, which were received with great enthusiasm; Molly Armour, Tsobel Martin and Betty Flavell danced most enjoyably and were greatly appreciated.

An address by Mrs Calrke, of the Waimana Institute, on her recent trip through Europe under the auspices of the A.C:W.W. Avas listened to with keen attention, and all present felt regret that owing to a full programme Mrs Clarke's time could, not be extended. However, it Avas hoped that at a future date she would be able to come again and continue her extensively interestingtalk. During the afternoon the trading stall did successful business, and the competition for the best flower resulted in Mrs Wheeler being the winner. Mrs Miller was the winner was the winner of the dressingtable

The report of the bi-annual council meeting w T as read by Mrs AVheeler, and adopted.

The afternoon closed with the singing of the National Anthem.
