OHOPE BONFIRE

Sir,—Though interested,, I was thoroughly disgusted to read in the BEACON the result of the collection taken up at the bonfire at Ohope Beach on inst. I expect there were at least 500 persons there and the result of the collection was less than y 2 d per head. Nothing to be proud of is it? I am therefore enclosing 5s towards the fund rather than see the promoters go out of pocket, and I sincerely trust that there will be others who will assist to wipe off the 30s which I understand is still outstanding. Your::, etc., PARENT.
