ACCOMMODATION SHORTAGE
DIFFICULTIES FOR SINGLE MEN SCOPE FOR ENTERPRISE One of the disadvantages of employment in and around Whakatant lor single men is the lack of accommodation. There is comparatively little choice in boarding-houses and private board is next to impossible to obtain. What private board is offering is so far from the centre of the town that it makes it unacceptable. Distance would be no handicap to the majority of those seeking lodgings; in fact most of them would appreciate the walk to and from town as being in the nature of exercise. .It is the thought of wet weather which prevents their acceptance. Should anyone with capital contemplate the establishment of a boarding-house (with a reasonable tariff) near the town's centre, they would have no difficulty in keeping their, house full. With the rapid development of Whakatane, and the consequent employment of more single men, there Is room in this direction for some enterprising person, and their effort would be well rewarded.
