SHINING CUCKOO'S LUCK
FOUND BY BIRD LOVER A Shining Cuckoo was picked up m a path by the front door of a re■ident of Paeknkariki on 12th October. Evidently the bird was exhausted after a long flight.. Howver, after half an hour's iest in the r-e of a friend, it was able to lly away. Luckily the bird had alighted on a safe place for a spell. Chance had l aken it to the home of Captain Sanderson, president of the Forest md Bird Protection Society, who .-p'y discourages the visits of cats ' ■ section which has a little forv f native trees. If the cuckoo topped near the front door of -'•age New Zealander it would as a meal for a cat.
