AMATEUR ATHLETICS

NEW SEASON OPENS WEDNESDAY EVENING'S PROGRAMME The new season of the Whakatanc Amateur Athletic Club, opens on Wednesday evening next when a full programme will be run off in th<e Domain, the first of a series to be held throughout the summer.

The committee has been particularly active, and the schedule of events, which commences at 5.30 p.m. includes fiat races for men and women competitors, one and a half miles cycle race and relay events. There will also be a shot putting event and several school races.

As an incentive to competitors to finish in their respective races the committee has decided to allocate points as under Ist Opts, 2nd spts, 3rd 4pts, 4th 3pts, with one point also for completing the distance. All points will count in the Ward Trophy, which has been donated for the highest aggregate during the season. The topdressing of the track has now been completed and there is every indication to show that it should be in excellent order for the opening meeting.
