Prof. Algie's Allegations
TRENCHANT CRITICISM OF GOVERNMENT MR. A. J. SINCLAIR'S VIEWS Speaking to a capacity house in the Grand Theatre last evening two well known critics of the Labour Government, Professor R. M. Algie of the organisation known as the Freedom League, and Mr A. -J. Sinclair, manager of the Te Awainutu Dairy Company's factory and an accepted authority on the industry as a whole, were accorded an attentive hearing from an audience which with one or two exceptions could be definitely described as sympathetic. Those present comprised a good muster of the local businessmen, a wide representation of district farmers and many others who followed the speakers with interest. Professor Algie was most emphatic in his warning against what he described as the very real trend of the country towards socialism, while Mr Sinclair, in particularly able fashion set out the grievance of the farmers, who he said were appealed to by the Empire to produce more to meet the emergency yet who were subjected to a process of slow strangulation by the constricting nature of the Labour legislation, masquerading under the cloak of necessary war emergency measures. His Worship the Mayor, Mr B. S. Barry, presided and introduced the speakers, who at the conclusion were accorded a vote of thanks rand appreciation on the motion of Mr W. Sullivan.
