PLANE FORCED DOWN

GERMAN MACHINE IN SCOTLAND

FINE WORK OF R.A.F.

Residents of a smalli village near Dalkeith, in Scotland last Saturday, were treated to an exciting two hours' aerial display when a flight of enemy reconnaisance machines appeared overhead and were immediately engaged by' British fighters which succeeded in driving the visitors -off with the exception of one machine which landed in a field., witli two of its crew of four killed, and another seriously wounded. The pilot however who was unhurt lifted his majtes-ffroiTi; machine and endeavoured to take off, only to strike a nearby hill and wreck his plane. Listeners in the BBC yesterday, heard a graphic description by an eyewitness, who in a broad Scottish accent proceeded. to tell how the machine had barely missed the chimneys of the houses when it landed. The pilot was interned. An unknown machine was seen off the Orkneys on Saturday, but there was no attempt at bombing and the machine disappeared soon after. The wreckage of a bomber, believed to be German was also discovered off the coast of Denmark.
