WOMEN'S INSTITUTE

MATATA ACTIVITIES Mrs CaverhHl presided over a good attendance of members at tiie October meeting of the Matata "Women's Institute which took place on "Wednesday last. The feature of the afternoon was that it was 'Grandmother's Day, an inauguration which met with popular approval and resulted 111 all the grandmothers present, being presented with a bouquet . 'A report on the flower show, and recent council meeting was real.

Mrs H. Withy gave an interesting demonstration on the making of sweets for which she received a vote of thanks.

The day's competitions resulted as under: Best spring flower, Mrs Smith 1, Mrs Withy 2, Mrs Burt 3. Sponge cake, Mrs Withy 1, Mrs Ansel 2. Sweet peas, Mrs Withy 1. House frock, Mrs Smith 1, Mrs Withy A delightful afternoon tea was served by the hostesses.
