"PRESS STERONGLY"
"HERE IS THE NEWS"
DAVENTRY VERSUS AUCKLAND
The other day the Beacon carried the sad story of a scrambled radio recipe. Even worse than this can, and in fact has, happened. I'm not fooling yon. There are two gentlemen on whose lightest words we hang. One we picture as young, faultlessly dressed, with a fancy shirt and platinum-blonde and regularly waved hair. The other we visualise as fat, Avith three days' black stubble on his chin, and avc think of him as reclining on his bed in a beerstained undershirt while he gives them these doAvn the microphone.
One of these gentlemen works for the 8.8.C. and the other for the N.B.C, We leave you to sort them out.
The other day the portable radio
was giving tongue in one room, Avhilc at one and the same time the costly multi-valvcd bit of furniture greeted the dawn in the sittingroom. The general effcct was:— "Heah is the Ncrs. British fighter aircraft Ave re engaged over Littal Dulverhamptou this morning. All our aircraft returned safely but the enemah is believed to haA'c lost ... "Wun, Tew, Three, FaAV. Make it a sterong exercise! Wun, teAV, three four.' Nah then! Vertical knees stretch Avith hips behind neck. Place right hand on left shoulder blade and right kidney on toast, then turning smartly ... "... make a strategic retirement according to a prearranged plan. The Germans are now occupying Hooded territorah Avhich requires constant pumpiir and is difficult to "... breathe in, breathe out! Wun teAV, three, faw. If you don't breathe the air out it does you no good and if you don't breathe in you die. Err! Make it a sterong exercise. Nah! Here's anneA r one especially for the young and the middle-aged. Elbows on ground, toes behind ears and press stcrongly! Make it n sterong motion. Again. Yew must do this .. . "... In semi-official circles, Avhich are confident that resistance can be maintained to the last and that there must be 110 thought of .. . "... roll sideways, nah back, sideways, back, sideways, back, Make it a sterong exercise and be .. . "... torpedoed twice. He said that on entering the water his first thought Avas ... "... this'll take the early morning sleep out of your eyes. Nah. Here's one that Avill take the fat off of you. You'll lose ... "... Ovah 3,000 drums of fuel oil. sufl icient to supply a raider AA'hich is belieA cd to be operating .. .
"... sterongly! Keep moving. This is going to strengthen the fallen . .
government of Poland. That
is the end of the ners."
