Sixteen Bombers Lost
SEQUEL TO GERMAN RAIDS ON bRITAIN OBJECTIVES COMPLETELY MISSED TII3 British Admiralty states that in Ijie first eliort' of the Nazi Air Force to bomb the British Fleet, including the 1 aids on the Firth ot Forth, Scapa Floav, and on convoy the enemy has lost heavily in machines and men. No less than sixteen heavy long-distance bombers have been destroyed, and their creAYS either killed or interned. On the other hand Great Britain has lost no aircraft, though thirty casualties AA*ere sustained on the cruiser Southampton from bomb splinters and the destroyer Mowtnuvk. The vessels in each instance Avere so, slightly damaged that they Avere ready for sea almost immediately. At Scapa Flow the Iron Duke Avhich was slightly damaged Avas not a fighting ship.
MERCHANTMAN SUNK TWO BRITISH & ONE SWEDISH U-boats Avere responsible for the sinking yesterday of three more merchant vessels, tAvo of Avhich were British the 'Sea Venture' and the 'White Mantle.' Fourteen members of the latter's ctcav are reported missing. The Swedish ship was the 'Albania.' which Avas sunh by a submarine in the North Sea.. The German Admiralty has Avarned the Norwegian GoA-ernment that their ships must not sail under conAvith the British or French battle lleets.
ADRIFT FOR THREE DAYS Four more German airmen whose plane Avas shot down in the North Sea and Avho Avere belieA'ed to have been lost Avere picked up by British trawlers yesterday after having been adrift in their small collapsable boat for three days.
