U-BOAT DEFEATED
STIRRING SEA ENCOUNTER A report of an encounter between an armed British merchantman on its way to South America and a Ger man deep raider is given by the Admiralty. The ship's single gun immediately went into action and scored a direct hit on the conningtower. A British destroyer was seen racing across the horizon and as the submarine could not submerge on account of the damage, the naval vessel made short work of it, Danish fishermen report a running battle between two British warships and a single German patrol boat in the North Sea.
