THE WHAKATANE CLUB

A competitions for the "Veterans" and "Juvenile" trophies presented respectively by Mr H. E. Cucksey and Mr L. W. Lux ton (president) aroused intense interest and were keenly contested. The matches were played over 36 holes on handicap and at the end of the first round there were many possibilities. The second round caused considerably alterations in the Veterans, A. E. Powdrell, with a splendid second round coming in the winner with a net score of 146. He was closely followed by W. M. Clark 148, and then L. Norris, C. A. Suckling, F. J. Reynolds and A. Clark each 153. In the Juvenile match, D. Allan with another great round maintained his lead with a net score of 135, thereby incurring a considerable reduction of handicap. He was followed by R. Horrocks 142, B. S. Barry 143 and D. Morpeth 146. The final of the Founders' Cup was won by L. B. Smith who defeated A. Morpeth by the narrow margin of 1 up. There will be no competition next Saturday on account of the Mokorua club's annual Labour week-end tournament. The following Saturday will see the closing of the season when driving ,approaehing and putting competitions will be held and all members and visitors are cordially invited.
