COMPETITION CRICKET

HILLCREST DEFEATED OUTRIGHT P. AND T. SUCCESSFUL

The opening competition matches of the present cricket season took place in the Domain on Saturday, Whakatane and Post and Telegraph securing well-deserved victories against Hillcrest and Central respectively. As a result of last Thursday evening's "'working bee' in Avhich about 25 members of the Whakatane, Hillcrest and P. and T. members were engaged, the outfield was in a much improved order and with a little attention each week should prove to be all that can be desired. Trophies Presented. During the afternoon Mr R. H. Cleland, president of the Association presented the respective trophies won during last season, including a handsome cup to B. Keepa for his consistency and excellent performances. Mr Cleland in wishing al! clubs a successsful season, expressed the hope that they would lccep cricket going even though their ranks might possibly be depleted from time to time through enlistment^ The Scorc Board.
