GARDENING CIRCLE

INTERESTING FLOWER DISPLAY

A most interesting , and pleasan afternoon was spent at the home o Mrs H. Wardlaw by the members o!

the Waimana-Nukuhou gardening circle of the Women's Institute recently. The gardens and lawns were in good order.

Mrs Jerram presided over a very good attendance of members. The way and means of members being able to help toward the soldiers comforts Avas well discussed, and' it was decided to keep in touch Avith the local boys avlio had gone to camp, and forward them comforts etc.

The members with' much regret received Mrs Jerram's resignation., as president. Mrs John Addison was elected president to carry on until next March, when Mrs Jcrram may be able to return to office, Owing to farm labour being short, the Niiku hou members have decided to withdraw* from the circle, as their help will be needed on the farms.

Mrs Bert Hughes was proposed as a new member and welcomed.

A competition arranged by Mrs H. Wardlaw, jumbled names of na-

tive trees, was won by Airs Starsbury, with the least, as- so many got

all names right

It was decided to include a best vegetable competition in the month-

ly competitions, and Mrs C. Wylde kindly offered a trophy for most points at the end of the year.

The day's competitions were as follows: Six daffodils, Mrs Mitchell. Three daffodils, Mrs Stevenson 1, Mrs "Woolfield 2. Best bloom. Mrs H. Ward law 1 (Anemone), Mrs Burnett 2, Mrs Eagle 3. Bowl of Primroses, Mrs Eagle 1, Mrs King 2.

A dainty tea was served by the

hostesses, Mrs Stevenson and Mrs Burnett, and a hearty vote of thanks passed to Mrs Ward law for the pleasant afternoon, closed the meeting.
