LONDON, 12.9.39.

Britain was ready when Avar broke out, declared Mr Hore Belisha, Secretary of State for War, in an (interesting outline of the activities of the expeditionary force now in France, in the House of Commons. Within five weeks 155.000 men had been transported to France without a single casualty. The force included 20,000 vehicles including tanks. Great Britain had more than in Hi lied her pledge to France, and this was by no means the last. Tap force travelled on an average of ihree convoys a night. Britain had. also despatched forces to the middle East and altogether, there was the best part of a million men now undc; arms.
