Our Ferocious Navy! In reply to the recent Daventry broadcast reviewing Nazi propaganda methods, the German station at Zeesen transmitted a special session in English dealing with Britisn accusations and atrocious British methods of waging Avar. One extract is worth quoting. "They say," said the announcer, speaking with bitterness, "that the British Navy is supreme and that we avoid them. Do you wonder that we avoid them - ! >vhen they boil their prisoners in oil?" Urewera Bush Fire. Several hundred acres of virgin scenic bush were destroyed when fire swept the hillside above the main Urewera highway between Murupara and Te Whaiti at the end of last week. The fire, the cause of which is unknown, occurred on CroAvn land on the fringe of an ex- ' tensive belt of bush, which forms one of the scenic attractions of the highway, and swept upwards towards the crown of the hills until it burned itself out in the heavier timber. Considerable concern was at one stage felt that the lire might extend into the State forestry plantations. A fire burnt fiercely on the other side of the gorge, but rain averted ils spread into valuable mill able blocks. It is ironic that all this destruction occurred in spite of the fact that the roadsides in this locality are heavily plastered with warnings against fires.
