MAIN HIGHWAY SUBSIDIES
WORK OF COMMITTEES
The Whakatanc Borough Council met on Monday night when there wc;e present the Mayor, Mr 15. S. Barry, Crs G, Otley, W. Sullivan, C. S. Armstrong, A. J. Canning, C. G. Caisley, F. Prideaux and A. Hall and the Town Cierk Mr D. V. Saun.der,s. blatters considered included a letter from the Whakatanc County Council staling that th: coun'eil viewed tlie extension of the bovougil boundaries favourably, Tlie Public Works Department advised that Main Highways Board subsidies approved for the year were £260 i'or tlie Paroa-Whakatnne State Highway, this including £53 left over from last year. The Wainui highway (Hillcrest) had been allotted £240 ;\t three Ibr one subsidy, and £700 at three for one for widening. .There was £500 allotted for the
Whakatanc Wharf main highway at three for one. With the councils' contribution £55)5 would be available REPORTS. The borough .foreman's report, after detailing loading work done, continued that six new connections had been amde to the water supply and alterations made to several meter lay outs which had caused trouble. The Francis Street amin would be l<tid as Soon as valves and fittings arrived, The electrical engineer's report included the information that there had been thirteen new connections to the supply during the month, made lip of four ranges, four hotwater cylinders and five lighting installations. Six building permits, two for garages and four for residences, had been the value amounting to £4696.

The borough foreman was instructed to dear and level the street frontages to the residences of H. O. Stewart, Landing Road, and Mr N. A. W, Victoria Avenue.
