The dense cloud of smoke hanging over the Rangitaiki Plains comes frcrn a block of 600 acres o.fl flax on the Thornton Road which has burnt fiercely since yesterday ? and will prob ably be completely destroyed today It is a low-lying block filled raupo and flax, and the fire is being allowed to burn unchecked. However there is no chance of its spreading beyond the confines of the area.
