ENLARGING THE BOROUGH
Only the warmest endorsement will be felt for the movement which is now afoot for the extension of the Borough Boundary so as to include the adjacent settlements., familiarly known as the Pa, and the Heads. Both areas are as muc Whakata,ne, as any of the suburban portions of the town which are already included. Why they have not been formally taken over e'er this remains something of a mystery. The pa, lies closer to the business area, than any other residential section, and yet for years has suffered from the anomaly, and has remained part of the County, and therefore beyond the scope of municipal amenities. But every person living therein is a definite citizen of Whakatane. The sooner the municipal authorities take over control, the better for apart from being badly served, poorly roaded, and neglected, it is definitely the Cinderella of the County, which body should welcome the move to lift its responsibility.
