GOLF TOURNAMENT

THE WHAKATANE CLUB

The AVhakatane Golf Club's annual tournament concluded on Monday after three clays varying but good weather.. The fixture was a most successful one, drawing a total of 73 entries inclusive of visitors from several other clubs as far afield as Gisborne. Much excellent golf was witnessed and some cxciting finishes eventuated, notably the final of the Seiror Championship which was decided on the last green.

The president, Mr L. W. Lux ton, thanked all and especially the visitors, for their attendance which had enabled the club to "carry on as usual'' to a most successful issue. Happy response* were made hv Mr R. H. Edwards (Gisborne) and Mr R. H. Phelan (Tauranga) on behalf of the visitors, especially commending llie -work of the local ladies for their valuable assistance. - Mrs Lux ton was called upon to present trophies to the successful competitors as follows;:— Senior Championship: S. E. Napier runner up, M. Andrews (Gisborne); Intermediate Championship; D.. C. Morpeth Jr., runner-un, R. H. Phelan (Tauranga); Junior Championship: W. S. Henderson, runner-up, F. Clark (Te Puke);' Best gross score in qualifying round: S. E. Napier: First Medal Handicap: R. H. Edwards (Gisborne); Stableford Bogey: M. Mikkleson (Te Puke), runner-up L. W. Luxton; Bogey Handicap: E. Clark (Tc Puke), runner-up, Dr Cole: Second Medal Handicap: W. S. Henderson, runner-up. C. Roberts: First Flight: A. Milne; Second Might:' A. Moore:" First Four-ball: C. H.
