SCOUT JAMBOREE
NOT TO BE HELD WAR CAUSES CANCELLATION Some days ago the Jamboree headquarters intimated that in the event of war it would be necessary to consider the cancellation of the Jamboree. In view of the present international position the organisers have decided not to carry on with the arrangements for the Jamboree which wa« to have been held from 27th December to 11th January. The fact that the camp site at Heretaunga i; now no longer available, and no other suitable site can be found, definitely, precludes the holding of the Jamboree. In addition, the organisers arc now unable to obtain the technical supplies, facilities and amenities which in normal times were being so willingly offered to the Boy Scouts. .Many of those throughout New Zealand who have been giving their time and energy to the preparatory arrangements may be called upon or required to give their services elsewhere and as a result the personnel necessary for staffing the camp will not be available. Consequently for these and many other reasons, the Jamboree headquarters has reluctantly decided that the Jamboree must be cancelled.
