DISTRICT enterprise

The Bay of Plenty is now looming up more prominently than of yore in rescpct to the acquisition, of thoroughbred horses, and in the future its racing stock is likely to take a worthy part in at least Auckland provincial racing. The enterprise of sportsmen,, who, at considerable expense, take part in improving the status of thoroughbred cquincs, is ever to be for it is quite an established fact that New Zealand horses sent to different parts of the world have proved a fine advertisement for this Dominion. New Zealand bred candidates have Avon races in Australia, England, India and America. In recent years some of England's sires of leading strains ahve been imported to this country, and the most recent importation is that of Messrs F. J. Savage and Sons of Waimana, who have been successful in securing a thoroughbred of very high lineage indeed in Revelation, which is due to arrive in New Zealand in about a fortnight. Revelation is by Manna ? one of the very best sons of Phalaris from White Eud by White Eagle, and therefore ranks as one of the highest standard thoroughbreds imported to this Dominion. Messrs Savage and Son have several very fine thoroughbred mares in their stud, including two purchased at the dispersal sale two years ago of Mr G. M. Curric, Wanganui They arc Ithaca, by Lysander_Leta. thus a three year old sister to Thespian, and Caste by Posterity-Cowl, therefore a half sister to Mask, The Monk, Rational and Vail, the latter being the dam of Veilmond and Liruond Lad. The English importation will be a big acquisition to the Bav of Plenty.
