MAGICIANS AND MERRY-GO-ROUNDS BOROUGH COUNCIL NOT TEMPTED An offer to organise a carnival in connection with the centennial celebrations was received by the Whakatane Borough Council from Carnival Organisers Ltd., which wrote stating that it could save the council a considerable amount of work ? worry and expense. It offered to organise, advertise and conduct an amusement section and provide all games, side shows, etc. on, a profitsharing basis at the company's risk nod expense. As an inducement it offered , a Hindu majgician whose mysticism was an attraction in itself, also a new type of merry-go-round. The Mayor, Mr B. S. Barry, said they were doing nothing in, connection with a carnival here.
