SUCCESSFUL OTAKIRI DANCE t The Whakatane Returned Soldiers ) hold a very successful dance in the ; newly opened Otakiri Halj on Wednesday evening the 30th August. The hall was very prettily decorated by the Otakiri ladies, who later in the evening served a delicious supper The music .was supplied by Mr§ ; K. Armstrong's Orchestra and was . very much appreciated. Two clevcrlv sung songs and tap dances were given by Miss M. Ray. mond, Master and Miss Walton danced a Highland Fling accompanied by Mr Johnston on the pipes, and al a later stage Mr Johnston played a Highland Schottische which all dancers joined and thoroughly enjoyed. Mr J. Rust gave a very intriguing conjuring performance which held his audience spellbound, and he was greatly applauded. T!ie electric iron competition was Avon bv Mr, S. Goodwin. Mr L. Brown of the executive of, the Whakatane Returned Soldiers* Association thanked all those who had helped to make thft evening such a success, and stated that tKfunds derived from these functions were being obtained lor the entertainment of the Australian Returned Soldiers who Avoukl be visiting New Zeaalnd early next year to assist in the centennial celebrations and to take part in the Anzac ceremony.
