N.Z. PRUNES About 500 tree of the prune d'ageu varieitv are being established experU mentally in, Hawke's Bay, Nelson and Otago, to determine the practicability of supplying New Zea land's substantial prune requirements within the Dominion. The bulk of the Dominion's dried prune requirements formerly came from California and Australia, the de. mand amounting to about 1205 tons at a cost of £50,000 annually. This quantity represents 3012 tons of fresh fruit of the requisite quality and if the orchard experiments prove a saccess no serious difficulty is expected in ultimately building up production to meet these needs in full..
