ENROLLING RECRUITS
SOME APPLICATIONS RECEIVED Though there is no oificial recruiting depot in Whakatane since War was declared Major C. F. Thomas, at Cutlers Hardware Ltd, has been issuing attestation forms to applicants who desire to enlist in_the territorial forces and taking note of the branch of the service they desire to join. There has been no great rush to enlist, but it must be remembered that a very satisfactory recruiting campaign has been carried out yi Whakatane over the last few months and many young men have joined the forces already. A number of applications from middle-aged men to join the reserve have been received. Several special reservists who have done training under the scheme announced last year have left for Narrow Neck or Well, ington for further training and defence and this also applies to members of the Territorial Air Force Major Thomas says that his business facilities are at the di-pisa! of the Defence Department if it is desired to open a recruiting depot, and he has made an offer in this dL rection.
