The sort of storm that lashes motion picture sets when • Hollywood is making a tropic drama beat down on Whakatane for a few minutes on Wednesday afternoon. The wind blew violently, a clap of thunder came, and then the mixed hail and rain streamed flown with phenomenal i'orce ( so that in a second thej whole length of The Strand became a running stream with its surface erupting every few inches in miniature waterspouts. It was not much good standing under shop verandahs because of the driven spray. After the squall had passed motorists found that the lain in many cases had played havoc with the igni tion systems of their parked cars, and soon there were raised ■ bonnets all along the street.
