FOOTBALL DINNER

A PLEASANT FUNCTION It must be good J'u_n belonging 1(5 a Te Awamutu team; • They travel to play a football match, borrow enough players to win the game for them ? and thus get a free dinner from their hosts of the City club. City must do the same thing when it plays the return match at Te Awamutu . Tt was an excellent dinner that Tim Cuckse.v turned on at the Commercial Hotel on Saturday evening, and the elaborate printed menu card formed an interesting souvenir of the occasion. After the gathering had affectionately and impartially insulted all and sundry in alleged musical honours, Mr D. S. Wilson, who captained the Whakatane team, rose and gave the health of their visitors. He hoped the game would be an annual affair. Mr J. G. Wynyard/ the visiting skipper, said that it had been a good game and they had had a lot of fun. He thanked City for lending them three men. He also hoped the game could be an annual fixture. They had made friends that day and that was what counted in football. Other toasts honoured were the Ambulance and the Referee. Mr 13. Norman. The toast of Mr Cucksev follow. 1 ! from Mr Wilson. Their host, he sai-i had done more for football than had been done in the last 20' years and he was sure that it was done in a disinterested spirit. Mr J. Denham supported Mr Wilson. Mr Cucksev thanked the teams for the way they had drunk his toast He appreciated Te Awamutu coming to play at his invitation, and also the way in which the Whakatane team had entertained their visitors. He hoped that a return game would be played with Te Awamutu.
