A BRAW EVENING
LOCAL SCOTS CELEBRATE INFORMAL SOCIAL GATHERING To further mark the arrival and distribution of the new uniforms for the Whakatane Pipe Band, members gathered last Thursday evening and gave a piping and marching display which was attended bj r officeis and members of the Caledonian Society. Later at the invitation of the Society's hard working and enthusiastic secretary Mrs F. E. Berry, the company adjourned to her home in Douglas Street, where an informal evening of a most enjoj r able nature took place. On the call of the Chiof, Mr Simons, the toast to the future of the band as an established unit and asset to the town was honoured. Items included piping and drumming, by Messrs L. Johnson, A. Donaldson and A. Martin, wh'le the Foursome reel was danced to perfection b3 T Mesdames Berry > Craig and Messrs Stark and Donaldson. • Pipcmajor Patterson returned the band's thanks to Mrs Berry for h°r hospitality and kindly thought while Mr C. F. Thomas, as a non-member but as one vitally interested in the band's progress congratulated the Society and playing members on their great achievement. The singing of Auld Lang Sj*ne brought a very enjoyable evening to a close.
