WHAKATANE WINS
PRIMARY SCHOOL RUGBY ROTORUA RUNNERSUUP (Special to Beacon) ROTORUA, last night. Whakatanc were the winners of the primary schools Rugby tournament by the narrow margin of one point from Rotorua. It was appro, priate that Whakatane should b? the winners this year as last year Rotorua and Whakatane tied and in th e play off Rotorua won. "I will not sympathise with the losers because the tournament been closely contested with good sportsmanship. The winners have been modest in their success and the loser? have accepted defeat grace fully," said Mr C. A. McKinney, headmaster of the Rotorua primary school in presenting the Tai Mitchell Shield. He added that the splendid spirit displayed was in full accord with the motto engraved on the shield "Band together." Mr A. Boswell 5 manager of the Whakatane team, said that the final "iame had given him a fright ail along, and it was a lucky win for Whakatane. The points at the end of the contest were: Whakatane played five games, won four ? drawn one, nine points; Rotorua eight points, Tau_ ranga five Opotiki four points Putaruru three points, Matamata one point. Yesterday the visitors were the firsts of Guide Rangi at Whakare"a''cwa.
