FIRE DEMONSTRATION
THE WHAKATANE BRIGADE APPEAL FOR FUNDS With a view to holding a demon, stration in Whakatane some time during October the local Fire Bri-? «—> 1 i gade is appealing for funds. It has been found necessary to raise a certain sum locally in order to provide for the cost of the event which will include representative teams from most of the brigades in the South Auckland area. It should not lie forgotten that the Whaka'tane Brigade is a voluntary unit, members of which are ready and willing at all times to place their services at the disposal of the general public. The appeal is therefore something that should not be ignored, for the demonstration means the maintenance of a high standard of efficiency which in the long rjin, is a safeguard to every householder and businessman in the town. Last year the brigadesmen put in no less than 2000 hours training in order to keep fit for the vital service they render. There are fourteen members each and all of whom arc devoting their interests to the public weal for nothing other than the pride they take in being firemen.
