RANGITAIKI DISTRICT SUB-BRANCH. PRESIDENT'S REPORT I have much pleasure in presenting the first annual report of the Rangitaiki Plains Sub-Branch of the Plunket Society. We wish to thank Mis Le Lievre for convening the meeting on October 37th, IJ3B, which suited in the formation of this sub-branch. We also thank Mrs Winters and Mrs Ley for lending their houses for committee meetings. Mrs Winters kindly donated a cake which realised £1 17s. A lightning canvas of the district was made by the committee to raise funds for a car for Nurse. We thank the Rangitaiki branch of the Labour Party for funds raised by a dance. We also thank Mr and Mrs Alex McLean for tho use of their beautiful grounds for a garden party. We thank all voluntary drivers. Unfortunately we aro faccd with increasing difficulty in arranging transport for nurse. We regret theresignation of two of our committee representing Matata. Owing to the wide area covered by nurse in a day's visit, it is impossible for her to include Thornton, and Matata. We hoped, if w e arranged to have nurse four days a month Instead of two, that she might devote the extra days to those districts. We understand, however, that apart from the mothers themselves, there is little support of the movement in Matata. This means a complete lack of voluntary drivers, so that Matata cannot be included until nurse has her own car. Nurse Strachan submits "the following report: Number of days in centre 11. First visits I#. Breast-fed 14, artificially fed 4. Total visits paid 170 for the five months. Colds have been prevalent, also there have been a few cases of measles. Duriijg the last month there have been two cases of severe digestive upset,, otherwise the health of the children has been-fairly satisfactory. In conclusion I wish to thank the committee for their excellent support in the work. E. S. DUNNING, President. Statement of Receipts and Expenditure as at 31/3/39.
