COUNCIL'S TRIBUTES
CR. J. ARRES' SERVICES The councils regret was expressed, and it was decided that its condolences should be sent to the relatives, when the dea,th of Cr J. Arres was mentioned at Monday night's meeting of the Whakatane Borough Council. The matter was introduced by the Mayor Mr B. S. Barry, who detailed Gr Arres' services to the borough. He had always been willing to pull his weight and do what he could to benefit the borough and the town. Cr Arres was not a man who went 1 about things w'ith a fanfare of trumpets, but in his ou*n quiet, reserved way he was there when needed. The Mayor moved that a letter of condolence be sent to the members of the family of the late Cr Arres. In this he joined the deputy-mayor, Cr S. S. Shapley, w r ho is at present on leave in England. Mr Barry read a telegmm of: ie. grets from Mr A. G. Hnltmrst/M.P Other tributes came from Cr S C. G. Caislev. W. Sullivan and C. S. Armstrong.
