THE BIG TOURNAMENT WELL.K UOWN MEN ENTER One of the most representative en, tries attracted by the annual open championship tournament of the Rotorua Golf Club is promised for this year's tournament which will be held at Arikikapakapa on August 22, 23, 24 and 25. Entries, which have now closed, include many of the best known amateur players in the Dominion including the only two plus one men, Pax Smithy of Akarana, the present New Zealand amateur champion, and P.. Giad'ing, of Hamilton. Three scratch men are also included in the entiy t G. Brinsden, vi 'iiiirangi' a previous wißs.-or of the Rotorua championship, D. H. Graham, of Wellington, winner of the North Island chrmrionship. played at Palmerston North at Easily and F. C. Hutchison of. WangrsMtt. Tlie handicap.-, of che remainder of the entry are n rul.? up as follows: Three men: on tvo nine «>n three, 26 on four,-. 31 on five, 18 on sir* and four on seven. The Rotorua club's strongest entries are C. Bailey now playing on a handicap of two, the Carr brothers, who are both on three, and a new member of tlio club J. Grace, previously of Well, ington, who is also on three. The first 32 entrants to qualify take part in the open championship and the next 32 in the contest for the Thermal Cup. A departure this year will be the arrangement of the remainder of the entrants into flights of 16 for handicap match play. The tournament, as in past years, will be followed by the New Zealand Veterans' tournament which will be held at Arikikapakapa from August 28 to September 1. Of interest to Whakatane people are the entries of R. L. Inriis (Rem. uero) and A. G. Morpeth (Whakatane) . Other Bay of Plenty golfers include L. G. Davies (Opotild), W. E. Hookey (Te Puke), R., Kensing* ton (Te Puke), B. Renshaw (Tauand W. Sparks (Te Puke).
