Institute birthday CELEBRATIONS ! (Beacon Correspondent) . t-VvV'v. '* 'i he Waimnna-Nukuhou Women's Institute celebrated their l()th birt! 1 day in the Waimana Hall last Wed. nesday. Theie was a lull attendance of meml)ers preseut ) and all the surrounding Si.ster Institutes were rep. vosented, and also members of the Te Kaha and Omaramutu institute-; \Vcifc -present. Mrs Marra presided, and welcomed all. The afternoon opened with the Glee CI;«b singing a Pakeha anil Maori welcome, which was followed by the Institute song. The minute-: were read and correspondence dealt with and it was de ruled to hold a husbands and friends evening op the 7th of September. Two new members were enrolled. A musical..competition was von, by a Maori member. A sketch entitled "A'do About Nothing?'. was well acted by M«"s John Addison and Mrs Mitchell and a play "Engaging a Maid'' was well pre. serjted by members of the Drama all players receiving great ovation. . ~v ■ The Glee. Club' sang and acted "Ten'Prettjr Girls,;'" "in costume, which was much enjoyed by all present. LitjtJe Miss Boynton apd Mrs Boynton sang a duet most | sweetly and an encore was demanded During the afternoon Mrs A. P. Wylde was presented, with a posy of violets, from, the members, in appreciation, of what she had done to help the Drama Circle, as Mrs Wylde *vas the aijt%>r, of the sketch and • p.lf.v .presented, . The Maori members of OmaramujEu Institute also gave a very clcver : play acted in a .Maori wliare, and the members'; of Te Kaha Insti. tiite g?.ve .native songs , and danccs v wiiich werfe much appreciated. A dclu'ious afteriibon tea was; served by the ami a, pink and ,>vhite birthday,cake with 10 candles took of place. The ingredients were donated by' Mrs Jerrarivand it was made -by -Mrs Eagle and iced by. Mrs JVI. King.
