TREES CUT DOWN
FELLING BIG GUMS IS TICKLISH TASK Two expert bushmen speedily felled six gum trees on Mr V. Timbs* section on the corner of Stewart. Street and King Street on Wednesday. The trees were partly on the footpath, and the work was carried out on behalf of the borough. Their removal was a ticklish task, as they had electric power lines and tele, phone cables on two sides and were overhanging the street. It was therefore necessary for them to be pulled down away from the street by a wire attached to a borough truck. It was found that two trees were badly rotted near the base, and they would not have lasted more than a year or two. They would probably have fallen during a storm and caused much damage. The tallest was about 120 feet high and this tree was also the -most decayed. An old identity thought they wer*c at least fifty years old as they were big trees when he first saw them thirty years ago.
