Dear Sir
EAST COAST RQAD Sir, —It is with surprise that I note the controversy, of opinion in your correspondence column as to whicli route the Main Highway should go., One would not have expected it aftei* the representative meeting of the citizens of this town on Saturday 22nd of July, when a unanimous vote v was recorded for the Waterfront Road which would not interfere with the town but give a new outlet to the already congested traffic on Friday nights. Now Sir though the Maraeto'tara Gorge "according to our correspondent'' is the most economical I would like to point out that the amount of solid clay culling is prejudicial to' economic maintenance after itfceen put through as compared with the rock formation via Otarawairerff which could utilise all the rock for consolidation of other portions of the road. Incidentaly the Otarawairere route would he on almost level road to Wainui from Ohope and give tourists and campers a much wider scope for enjoying practically the w T hole length - of the beach to the mouth of Ohiwa Harbour under all weather conditions. Yours etc., ANOTHER SETTLER.
