MONEY FOR DISTRICT SUMS FOR ROADING There are several references to the Bay of Plenty, Whakatane Courtly, and contiguous districts in the Public Works Estimates tabled in the House last night. , Under the heading of ra'lway construction the amount expanded on the Paeroa.Pokeno line is shown at £102,297 and the sum estimated to', complete it at £938,522. The sum of £2067 has been expended on the Tan-eatua-Opotiki railway, and there are no entries under the headings of cost of work, estimate for completion, or authorisation date. Under the sub-heading of Public Buildings the estimated amount to voted for the police station at Whakatane war, £3400 and the amount voted £1000 the estimated amount to complete the work being £4000. Under the subdivision of Postal Hnd Telegraph the estimated amount to be voted for Whakatane is £5000, the estimated cost of work when authorised £12,000 and the amount required to complete the work £12,000. This item will probably refer t.o the new post office. The cost of the qew garage and store is shown as £2000. For the residence at Te Teko £1100 was voted and £1071 expended, while £300 was voted and £313 expended for Waimana. For lands improvement £450 was voted and expended for the Orrini Stream flood-gate and £500 voted, £88 expended and £412 is required to ccm plete the work of prevention, of erosion on the Whakatane river at Rua_ told. The Native Department is contributing to this work. The Waiariki land district comprising Rotorua and Bay of Plenty, gets £310,000 the largest amouilt voted for the development of native land schemes but the local proportions are not shown. Roads Und?r the heading of estimated amount required to be voted for ih.3 Tauranga Road district appears the figure of £77,750 : , as amount voted £108,220 is shown, expenditure is £70,360 estimated cost of work £309 911. Total expenditure to March 31 is £162,721 and amounts required to complete, works £147,190. Under these headings the Whakatane county totals are. £47,080 £(>6, - 790. £48,677, £226,597, £137,644 and '"•8S 850' the largest single entry in each case being for the Rotorua to Waikaremoana road.
