JULY INGLESIDE
WHAKATANE SCOTS CELEBRATE ANOTHER MEMORABLE EVENING The Whakatane Caledonian So-. ciety added yet another successful evening to its splendid record, last Friday evening when, with the King Street Hall well filled and dancing and items going with a merry swing, the July Ingleside took place. Visitors from all surrounding districts were loud in their praises of the conduct of the programme and the spirit of goodwill and fellowship so manifestly present. The band which was present in force gave several selec-. tions and also provided the music for several da,nce items. Chief W. J. Simons carried out the duties of M. C in a manner that left nothing to be desired. The Society is to be congratulated on the talent produced by ithe artists and dancers who have provided their items. Last Friday's programme delighted the audience and as usual enabled local entertainers to give very creditable examples of what Whaaktane can produce. Miss Barbara Howat sang very sweetly "Bonny Mary 0 f Argyle" and "Will 3 T e no Come Back Again" and was warmly applauded. Little Miss Marion Raymond gave a solo and dance number, which was very cleverly executed. We will doubtless hear more of her as time goes on. Outstanding were the dancing exhibitions of Miss Walton and pupils. These never failed to meet with a warm reception. The Irish a difficult but attractive dance was daintily executed by Misses Walton, Ruby and Jean Howat and Isobel Martin. The Highland reel was performed by Misses Walton, Mollie Armer, Isobel Martin and Ruby Howat. Master Wallace Walton, also gave a lively interpretation of the Sword Dance. Music for the dancing Avas provided by Pipers A. Donaldson and L. Johnson. The evening passed all too quickly in the dancing of all the old:time numbers plus the Highland Schotische( Gay Gordons, and by way of an the Eightsome reel, the latter bringing three . sets forward. A lucky spot waltz added further to the general gaiety. Supper was served bv members of the committee, assisted by the band which was under the control of Pipemajor Doug. Patterson. The singing of Aukl Lang Syne shortly after 1 a.m. with many enthusiasts still keen to. carry on. brought a most successful evening to a close.
